NSUI members vandalised DUSU chief’s office, claims ABVP; Cong student wing says ‘diversionary tactic’ | Delhi News

In a fresh row between the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), allegations of vandalisation at Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) president Tushar Dedha’s office have surfaced with both the student wings stepping up attack on each other. After the DUSU chief’s office was allegedly vandalised on Saturday night, the Delhi University has announced the formation of a committee to investigate the matter.

Speaking to The Indian Express, DU proctor Rajni Abbi on Sunday said, “Primarily until now, we have found the DUSU President’s office was vandalised. Several cans and liquor bottles were found at Vice-President Abhi Dahiya’s office. The guard has given his statement and tomorrow we are going to set up a committee to further investigate this matter.”

The videos of the alleged vandalisation were widely circulated on social media. In a statement, RSS-affiliated ABVP on Sunday lashed out at the Congress’s student wing. “On July 14, around 3 am, about 40 NSUI goons – including DUSU Vice President Abhi Dahiya, Yash Nandal, Raunak Khatri, Siddharth Sheoran – attacked the office at Delhi University’s North Campus and vandalised the office of DUSU President Tushar Dedha, the visitor room of DUSU secretary Aparajita and the office of DUSU co-secretary Sachin Baisla. The idol of Lord Ram kept in the office of the DUSU President was also broken in this attack. The water dispenser kept in the visitor room of DUSU among other things was broken,” alleged the ABVP statement.

Stepping up the criticism against the ABVP, the NSUI claimed that ABVP members were trying to divert attention from the critical issue of fake degrees allegedly held by their office bearers at the University of Delhi.

Last week, the DUSU Vice-President alleged that Dedha used “fraudulent mark sheets” to gain admission to DU. The claim was, however, denied by the DUSU chief.

Festive offer

In his detailed statement, NSUI National President Varun Choudhary said, “The NSUI condemns the ABVP attempt to divert attention from the critical issue of fake degrees held by their office bearers at the University of Delhi. The ABVP’s fabricated violence, attacks on idols, and production of counterfeit degrees are efforts to mislead students and shift focus from their malpractices.”

“ABVP is known for spreading violence and threatening teachers and students on campuses across India. At the University of Delhi, the ABVP has thrashed and threatened professors in multiple incidents. They never address issues like the NEET, NET, or NTA scams; instead, they act as a safety valve for the BJP government” he added.
