President Droupadi Murmu appointed Governors to nine states late Saturday night, stating that the dates of appointment would be effective from the date they take charge.
Veteran BJP leader Santosh Gangwar, who was not given the ticket to contest from Bareilly in the recent Lok Sabha elections after having won the seat six consecutive times, has been appointed Governor of Jharkhand. He is an OBC from the Kurmi caste, which seems to have veered away from the BJP in UP and Bihar in the parliamentary polls.
Former Lok Sabha MP from Assam Ramen Deka has been appointed Governor of Chhattisgarh.

Former Maharashtra Assembly Speaker and BJP leader Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde has been appointed Governor of Rajasthan. Maharashtra has been another state where the BJP faced serious reverses in the Lok Sabha elections. The state also saw a Maratha quota stir that caused significant discomfiture to the government.
Former Deputy CM of Tripura from the BJP Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed Governor of Congress-ruled Telangana.
Veteran BJP leader from Rajasthan O P Mathur, a former member of the Rajya Sabha, has been appointed Governor of Sikkim. Former Lok Sabha member from Karnataka C H Vijayshankar, who quit the BJP to join the Congress and rejoined the BJP in 2019, has been appointed Governor of Meghalaya.
The President of India has accepted the resignation of Shri Banwarilal Purohit as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Union Territory of Chandigarh. K Kailashnathan, a retired IAS officer who served as chief principal secretary to then Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat from 2013 to 2014, has been appointed Lt Governor of Puducherry.
C P Radhakrishnan (Maharashtra) and Lakshman Prasad Acharya (Assam)
C P Radhakrishnan, Governor of Jharkhand with additional charge of Telangana, will now be Governor of Maharashtra, a crucial state for the BJP. Twice elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore, Radhakrishnan is a former Tamil Nadu BJP president.
Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Assam, has been appointed as Governor of Punjab and also Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Kataria, a veteran BJP leader, was a minister in Rajasthan earlier.
Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Sikkim, has been appointed Governor of Assam and has also been given additional charge of the Governor of Manipur. Acharya, a BJP leader, was an MLC in Uttar Pradesh.
