Kathua terror attack breakthrough: Police arrest 2, question over 100 as probe into killing of 5 security personnel intensifies | India News

Investigating the militant attack in Kathua earlier this month in which five security personnel were killed, the Jammu and Kashmir police said Thursday that they arrested two alleged overground workers (OGWs) involved in “supporting terror-related activities”.

They were both from Kathua district and were identified as Mool Raj of Malhar tehsil and Layaqat Ali of Billawar.

According to police, the two were also found to have purposefully withheld crucial information from police. “Both individuals deliberately chose not to disclose vital information to the police, thereby obstructing efforts to prevent terrorist actions,” a police spokesperson said.

An FIR under sections 61(1), 113, 147, 150 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and under EIMCO Act was registered at Malhar police station against them and further investigations are going on, police said.

They were arrested as part of the police investigation during which over 100 individuals have been questioned and preventive measures have been initiated against more than 40 individuals to mitigate further risks and disrupt any potential support systems for terrorist activities, the spokesperson said.

Festive offer

Meanwhile, sources said sustained questioning of these two alleged OGWs is likely to lead to more arrests of “persons involved in giving strategic and logistic support to the terrorists”.

Five security personnel, including four soldiers and a local policeman, were killed when militants ambushed an Army vehicle in Badnota village, 150 km away from Kathua town, on July 8.

The Army and police have launched massive combing and search operations across Jammu division and deployed over 4,000 soldiers, including the elite para commandos and those trained in mountain warfare to in a bid to eradicate militancy from the area.
