Drones to monitor movement of kanwariyas on Gurgaon roads | Delhi News

Following the accident on the Delhi-Jaipur highway that killed a kanwar pilgrim in the early hours of Wednesday, police said drones will be deployed to ensure smooth movement at busy intersections in the city amid the annual Kanwar Yatra.

Police on Wednesday launched the programme by flying drones in the sky at Subhash Chowk and Rajiv Chowk. “To ensure the smooth passage of the kanwariyas, the Gurgaon Traffic Police has been using drones from the beginning of the yatra. These drones help to safely navigate the Kanwariyas through crowded areas without any obstruction. The traffic police will continue to use these drones until the completion of the Kanwar Yatra on August 2. A large number of kanwariyas traveling towards Rajasthan and Sohna are being assisted by these drones at various intersections,” a spokesperson said.

The traffic police used drones at both Subhash Chowk and Rajiv Chowk to help kanwariyas cross the busy intersections. With the help of these drones, police can monitor the pilgrims from a distance of over a kilometer. Police said that officers and staff are present at every corner to ensure a safe Kanwar Yatra and are performing their duties with “true dedication and commitment”. To aid the kanwariyas, the Traffic Police said they have also installed signboards at various places.
