Taking all by surprise in the UP Assembly, BJP MLA from Prayagraj Harshvardhan Bajpai on Wednesday spoke against his government’s Bill preventing the conversion of Nazul land into private freehold.
His objections put the treasury benches in an awkward situation with the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna making an intervention while Bajpai was speaking. “Aap samajh nahi rahein ho. Pahle padh toh lo (You are not getting it. First, go through it,” Khanna told Bajpai.
Under the UP Nazul Property Bill, 2024, Nazul land — land owned by the government but often not directly administered as state property — in the state can no longer be converted into private ownership.
