To prevent incidents of stampede, the UP Police has issued an SOP for crowd and police management at large events.
This comes after a stampede in Hathras on July 2 that left 121 dead.
The SOP covers four main areas: continuous action to be taken in view of the crowd-caused disaster; advance preparations for events; emergency actions during a stampede; and overall event management.
As per the SOP, a Gazetted officer or local magistrate will be appointed as the event in-charge.
The control of people and vehicles will be managed according to the Crowd Control Plan, the SOP said.
