Pune Rural police have launched a probe after a 30-year-old woman alleged that she was threatened at knife point, robbed of her gold ornaments worth Rs 1 lakh and was sexually assaulted after being forcefully disrobed and had photos taken of, by three persons who allegedly stalked her while she was on evening walk on the outskirts of Baramati town in Pune district.
A First Information Report was filed at Baramati taluka police station by the woman who is a resident of Baramati. The incident took place around 7 pm in the Rui area on the outskirts of Baramati on July 24. Pune Rural police said they have launched a probe for three unidentified suspects whose description was provided to them by the complainant.
According to the FIR, the woman was taking an evening walk on Vanjarwadi Bhigwan road. After walking for over an hour, she entered a roadside sugarcane field to attend to nature’s call. When she was entering the field, she saw a man talking on the phone, she has said in the FIR.
When she was walking on an unpaved road in the field, the same man came up behind her and suddenly grabbed her from behind. He threatened her by putting a knife to her throat and asked her to give him the gold mangalsutra and other gold ornaments she was wearing. The FIR further states that at this moment, two more men came there and one of them covered her mouth with his hand.
The trio took her further away from the road and took her to a more secluded place near a well on the field. They took her gold chain, ring, earrings and cell phone. Threatening to kill her, they forcefully partially disrobed her and one of them took photos of her on his phone, the FIR states. One suspect allegedly told the other that if they take her phone with them, they will have a problem. They threw her phone towards and her fled with the gold ornaments worth over Rs one lakh.
The woman then approached the police station and an FIR was registered. “We have launched a probe into the case and we are probing all possible angles,” said Inspector Vijay Chavan of Baramati taluka police station.
