Surat builder moves HC against BJP corporator, inspector among others | Ahmedabad News

A Surat-based builder moved the Gujarat High Court to direct the police to register a case of abduction, threat to life and cheating against Surat city Bharatiya Janata PartyCorporator Amit Singh Rajput, the husbands of two other BJP corporators, and Godara police inspector H S Acharya among others on Thursday.

The case pertains to Dindoli resident and builder Pradip Gupta, who on July 13 had submitted a complaint with inspector HS Acharya of Godadara police station alleging that he was kidnapped from his office in Dindoli on July 12.

Gupta in his complaint alleged that he was later taken to Rajput’s office, where he was allegedly threatened and also forced to sign eight cheques worth Rs 66.48 lakh.

The builder in his complaint had named Ward no 26 BJP councillor Amit Singh Rajput, Bablu Rajput, Mansukh Baldaniya — whose wives are BJP councillors among others.

It has been alleged that the police had failed to register the builder’s complaint.

Later on July 15, Gupta with his lawyer Vilas Patil also met Surat police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut and submitted an application requesting him to register his complaint but to no avail.

Subsequently, the builder moved the Gujarat High Court on Thursday and his petition was approved on Friday.

In his petition, the builder requested the court to direct the Surat police to register a case against the accused.
Charges levelled by Gupta include cheating, abduction, criminal intimidation, extortion, criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and trespass.

Complainant’s lawyer Vilas Patil told The Indian Express, “Our petition has been admitted in the Gujarat High Court and a hearing may be scheduled in the coming week”.

“Godadara police inspector H S Acharcya has also been named as an accused in the petition as he failed to register the case. He also failed to recover the CCTV footage of Amit Singh Rajput’s office where Gupta was illegally kept, threatened and forced to sign eight cheques worth ` 66.48 lakh,” he said.

“During the hearing, we will also submit the CCTV footage of abduction to Gujarat High Court,” said Patil.

As of now, an investigation into Pramod Gupta’s complaint is being conducted by Assistant Commissioner of Police (D division) V M Jadeja following the orders of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Bhagirath Gadhvi.

The Indian Express tried to reach Assistant Commissioner of Police V M Jadeja over the phone, but he did not respond.
