The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Bengaluru police on Wednesday arrested a Kannada film director who was jailed in a murder case and had been absconding for nearly two decades.
M Gajendra alias Gaja, 46, was one of the eight accused in the murder of Ravi alias Kotta Ravi, a criminal, in 2004. Wilson Garden police registered a case and arrested Gajendra for the murder. Gajendra spent a year as an under-trial prisoner, and was granted bail by a court. After being released on bail, he stopped responding to the police summons or notices.
In 2008, in the chargesheet, the police informed a court that Gajendra, who settled down in Vellore in Tamil Nadu, was absconding. A police officer said he even directed a Kannada movie Putani Power in 2019.
Gajendra often visited Bengaluru and also worked in the Kannada film industry and also has a house in the city. However, he sold his residence located in Suddaguntepalya and stopped contacting his relatives or other family members.
Recently, the police who were checking pending cases came across Gajendra’s involvement in the murder and arrested him from his new residence in Bengaluru.
