IF the updated website of the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Puducherry is anything to go by, Kuniyil Kailashnathan, popularly known as ‘KK’ – the retired Gujarat cadre bureaucrat who took oath as L-G on Wednesday – is likely to continue to helm the Gandhi ashram redevelopment project. Sources said KK was hands-on on the ashram project in Ahmedabad till Tuesday. Just a month ago, the Gujarat government had put out a notification confirming that KK would lead the project “until further orders”. While the website of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limied (SSNNL), a state government undertaking, described KK as its incumbent chairman on Wednesday, the website of the Puducherry L-G said “he was” SSNNL chairman. It went on to add in his bio, “He is Chairman of Executive Council, Mahatma Gandhi Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust entrusted with the Gandhi Ashram Redevelopment Project”.
Reverse Yatra
Even as Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is set to launch a march in Surat city on August 11 as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, Opposition AAP has sought police permission to take out a “reverse yatra” on the same route, the same day. Leader of Opposition in Kamrej Taluka Panchayat and AAP leader J D Katheriya seeks to hand over a memorandum to the CM on August 11, in regard to issues faced by the people living under Kamrej Taluka Panchayat and pressing for the inclusion of Kamrej in the jurisdiction of Surat Municipal Corporation. In a letter posted on social media, he said, “The population of Kamrej is around 3 lakh… Our demand is Kamrej should be included in Surat Municipal Corporation to get all facilities. We have sought police permission for yatra and are sure that we will not get it, but we will reach the spot in vehicles and take out a reverse yatra on August 11.”
