Asia: Floods in India, typhoon in Taiwan and China
In India, Mumbai faced heavy rainfall leading to the cancellation and diversion of flights. Runway operations were halted twice due to poor visibility caused by intense downpours.
Pune witnessed record-breaking rainfall with Shivajinagar recording the third-highest daily rainfall in 66 years, reported PTI. The deluge caused casualties and extensive property damage, prompting evacuations in low-lying areas.
On the other hand, typhoon Gaemi wreaked havoc across Taiwan and China, causing landslides, flooding, and fatalities.
In Taiwan, the storm claimed three lives and left hundreds injured, while in China’s Fujian province, over 240,000 residents were evacuated as the typhoon made landfall, reported AP.
Transportation services were disrupted, and recovery efforts are ongoing amid widespread damage.

United States: Floods in Floyd County
Floyd County, Kentucky, is grappling with its 13th and 14th federal disaster declarations since 2011 due to devastating floods. The region, home to over 35,000 people as per AP, continues to struggle with recurrent natural disasters that overwhelm local resources.
Efforts are underway to assist hundreds affected by the latest floods.
North America: Wildfires and extreme weather in California and Oregon
In Northern California, the Park Fire has rapidly expanded from 10 to over 70 square miles, prompting evacuations in Butte and Tehama counties. Firefighters are battling high winds up to 75 mph and bone-dry conditions worsened by climate change.
Meanwhile, in eastern Oregon, a severe thunderstorm brought some relief with rain but also ignited fears of new lightning-sparked blazes amid the aftermath of the Durkee Fire, the largest active fire in the US, reported AP.
