Day 5 of the FDCI India Couture Week has come to a grand close with designers Rahul Mishra and Amit Aggarwal showing their collections to a spellbound crowd. In an exclusive conversation with The Indian Express, Mishra revealed that his father has been in the ICU in the leadup to his show at the couture week this year.
“My dad has been in the ICU for the last 15 days but as the saying goes, ‘the show must go on’,” says Rahul. The designer adds how his father is the one who taught him this philosophy, saying, “The man is on life support but he was asking me the day before when I went to see him, what the collection is looking like. So, this is all for him.”
Divya Mishra, Rahul’s business partner and wife, said they’ve “just been finding their balance in this grim time but it’s all a team effort.”
Rahul’s new collection ‘Nargis’ draws deeply from his relationship with nature. This was evident as actor Lisa Ray opened the show in a cream sari gown with a long train trailing behind her. The actor is back on the runway after a long hiatus of 20 years and walked in to her song ‘Afreen Afreen’. In a press conference after the show, Lisa said how she’s now “a changed woman” and couldn’t be “happier” to have been given this chance.
Inspired by a Mughal Garden, Rahul’s newest collection featured peacocks, pomegranate flowers, peonies, and a lively fish pond under the sun on the garments.
“The most intricate collection representing our atelier, Nargis, just like the namesake flower, is our annual expedition of Indian festive couture. Realised over eight months with more than 1,200 embroidery artisans who associate with our brand in various villages across the country, the collection modernises hundreds of ancient, traditional hand-embroidery techniques. It features vibrant surfaces adorned with aari thread-work, bugle beads, kundan, various kinds of rhinestone crystals, glass beads, freshwater pearls, sequins, nakshi pita work, and more,” the collection note reads.
Designer Amit Aggarwal also presented his collection ‘ANTEVORTA’ on day 5 of the FDCI India Couture Week. The show may have lacked a showstopper but drama ran galore in the structural silhouettes on the runway.
“Our couture line transcends conventional fashion boundaries, delving into the fundamental essence of humanity. By envisioning time as five distinct yet interconnected entities, we extend our narrative beyond the realm of fashion”, says Amit Aggarwal in a press release.
Inspired by the Roman Goddess of the Future who is always present at the time of birth, ANTEVORTA symbolises the timeless connection between time and the universe. The collection intricately weaved together philosophical, mythological, religious, scientific, and cosmological influences into a temporal narrative.
Aggarwal has received high praise for his collection, even being called the only designer to have broken from their mould this couture week.
