A special court in Mohali on Tuesday convicted 17 people, including dismissed Punjab police deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and former wrestler Jagdish Singh Bhola, in an 11-year-old money laundering case. Out of the 23 accused in the case, four died during the trial, while two were declared proclaimed offenders by the court.
Based on the investigation of the Punjab Police and registration of FIR in multi-crore money laundering cases, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) booked Bhola and the other accused under the Prevention of Money Laundering (PMLA) Act in 2013 and took over the investigation. Bhola, who is already undergoing a 24-year jail sentence in a drugs smuggling case, has been given a 10-year jail sentence in this case.
The other convicts in the case are: Manpreet Singh (10 years), Sukhraj Singh (10 years), Maninder Singh (ten years), Sukhjeet Singh (10 years), Gurpreet Kaur (three years), Sandeep Kaur (three years), Jagminder Kaur (10 years), Gurmeet Kaur (10 years), Gurdeep Singh Manchanda (five years), Amarjeet Kaur (three years), Davinder Singh Happy (10 years), Subash Bajaj (five years), Sumit Bajaj (five years), Ankur Bajaj (five years), Dalip Singh (three years), and Avtar Singh alias Tari (10 years).
Bhola’s father Balshinder Singh, also an accused in the case, died on July 24 and the court allowed him two-hour parole to perform the last rites of his father.
