Delhi Police arrest history-sheeter, recover illegal weapons | Delhi News

The Delhi Police have arrested a gangster for allegedly shooting at his uncle for verbally abusing his mother in Panipat, officers said on Sunday.

A senior police officer said Constable Surender of the Crime Branch had received a tip-off about the movement of a gangster named Rajan alias Mantri, who was the main accused and wanted in an attempt to murder case at the Sanoli police station in Panipat.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Satish Kumar said, “The police source also informed us that the accused, Rajan alias Mantri, was carrying illegal weapons.” On receipt of this information, a team of Head Constable Amit, Soni, Trishpal, and Constable Surender, supervised by Inspector Pankaj Thakran, was constituted.

Based on the information received, a trap was set near gate number 3 of Japani Park in Rohini. A Mahindra Scorpio car was spotted there, with the lone occupant identified by a secret informer as Rajan alias Mantri. The team apprehended and recovered an automatic pistol from his possession.

Upon inspection, two live cartridges were discovered in the loaded pistol. Subsequently, a thorough search of the Scorpio car revealed a loaded single-shot pistol and a live cartridge concealed beneath the driver’s seat. A case was filed under the relevant sections and the accused was charged.

Elaborating on Rajan’s background, DCP Kumar said that he had a property dispute with his uncle Azad, who used to reside in the same village. “Azad is also previously involved in criminal cases and a few days ago, Azad hurled abuses and insulted the mother of the accused Rajan. Enraged at this, Rajan vowed to take revenge. On June 23 in the late evening, Azad was returning to Nangla Paar village in his car, and Rajan, along with his associates, opened fire at Azad.”

One of the bullets pierced the car, hitting Azad’s waist. Despite his injury, Azad managed to drive home and was then taken to a hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds.

The police said the accused is a state-level boxer. One of his uncles is in jail for a murder case. In the past, he provided shelter to several gangsters and helped them obtain passports with fake names using his home address. He fled to Dubai, then returned to India and started a finance business. He also became a partner in a liquor shop.

DCP Kumar said Rajan is involved in four attempt to murder and abduction cases.
