Bungalow number 12 at Safdarjung Road will soon be Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s new address in Lutyens’ Delhi. Chouhan has been staying at a guesthouse in the Pusa complex since he became a minister on June 8.
For the initial few days, he stayed at the Madhya Pradesh Bhawan in Chanakyapuri. Chauhan’s predecessor at 12, Safdarjung Road was Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Kapil Moreshwar Patil, who lost the Lok Sabha elections from Bhiwandi to Suresh Mhatre of NCP(SP).
Unwanted Visitor
An “intruder” posed a challenge for security personnel as well as MPs on the Parliament premises on Friday. A monkey was spotted roaming the corridors outside the Lok Sabha chamber and later the MPs’ lobby.
Sources say the simian may have entered through one of the gates of the building, as the new Parliament does not have open corridors like the old one.
Once spotted, the monkey was chased out by the security personnel but not before it had jumped on sofas in the MPs’ lobby. While monkey sightings were common in the old building, Friday’s visit may have been the first such encounter in the new building, say sources.
In Lighter Vein
Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan engaged in a friendly banter with Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Bachchan, who had last week objected to “Amitabh” being mentioned as her middle name in the House by Deputy Chairman Harivansh, started her speech with “Main Jaya Amitabh Bachchan…”
She went on to ask Dhankhar if he had his lunch during the break. She said in jest that the Chairman was repeatedly taking the name of Congress leader Jairam Ramesh as he could not digest his lunch till he mentioned him. Responding on a lighter note, Dhankhar said he did not get time for lunch during the recess but ate later with Ramesh. “Aaj hi liya,” he said. Dhankhar then said he is a fan of both Jaya and Amitabh. “I have not seen a couple like you,” he said.
