A 44-year-old inspector of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Bengaluru police allegedly died by suicide and his body was found near Bidadi, on the outskirts of the city, on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Thimmegowda, who was a police inspector of CCB’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW). According to a police officer, Thimmegowda’s body was found in a deserted place in Bidadi, where his family lived nearby. The locals who noticed the body alerted the police.
The police were able to identify Thimmegowda by his identity card found in one of his pockets. “We shifted the body for a post-mortem examination and are awaiting the reports. Our initial probe shows he might have killed himself over some personal issues,” said a police officer.
While Thimmegowda’s father-in-law Govindappa alleged that his son-in-law was under severe pressure at work and suspected foul play, the police said they have not found any evidence supporting the allegation.
Thimmegowda was deputed to CCB in Bengaluru a month ago. Last year, he was suspended after a fire broke out at a firecracker godown in Attibele, on the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu border, leading to 17 deaths.
A police officer said Thimmegowda was also booked for allegedly cheating a woman while working in Hassan as a police inspector of the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (MESCOM). According to the case details, Thimmegowda who was having an affair with the woman, impregnated her and refused to marry after she delivered the baby. A case was registered in 2007 and Thimmegowda was facing trial. The police department which had conducted an inquiry cleared him in the case.
