TWO DAYS after he chaired a meeting with senior BJP leaders, including both Deputy CMs and the BJP’s state president, to discuss the party’s strategy for the coming Assembly bypolls, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who reached Ambedkar Nagar from Ayodhya on Wednesday, convened another meeting of BJP office-bearers and public representatives.
During the meeting, Adityanath emphasised that the coming election is a “contest between BJP’s development agenda and the opposition’s destructive propaganda,” sources said.
He alleged that the opposition was indulging in “tactics of dividing society along caste lines and spreading false rumours” in the run-up to the bypolls. He also expressed concern that the opposition “might use social media and other platforms to mislead the public.” Adityanath asked office-bearers and representatives to actively engage and communicate with the public and counter the opposition’s “misinformation”.
The meeting took place at Circuit House in Ambedkar Nagar, where bypoll is due on the Katehari Assembly seat, which fell vacant after the local MLA Lalji Verma became Member of Parliament after the recent Lok Sabha polls.
During the meeting, Adityanath also elaborated on the importance of booth management, telling party leaders that, “If we win the booth, we win the election.” He also emphasised the role of “panna pramukhs” in poll strategy. He directed office-bearers to ensure that “panna pramukhs” are deployed adequately as they are “instrumental in bringing voters to the booths.” He also highlighted that the government is running development schemes benefiting all sections of society and urged party workers to communicate these achievements to the public.
With the Opposition running a campaign focused on alleged “threat to the constitution” ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the CM pointed out that the constitution has been safeguarded primarily under BJP governments, contrasting this with the dismissal of elected governments during Congress rule. He called on party workers to “expose the Opposition’s double standards” before the public. “Party workers should respond to the misleading politics played by the opposition. For this, the officials will have to remain active and alert. The opposition has deceived the public in the Lok Sabha elections,” said Adityanath. Some senior government officials in the government and the district administration also attended the meeting, sources said.
The CM was accompanied by Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, Minister in-charge of Sports and Youth Welfare Department Girish Chandra Yadav, former MP Ritesh Pandey, and Legislative Council member Padmasen Chaudhary, among others.
On Monday, after the brainstrming session with senior leaders, Adityanath also reviewed the preparations for the Milkipur Assembly bypoll with the party’s election in-charges, laying emphasis on booth management.
