Senior administration and police officials on Thursday showered flower petals from helicopters on Kanwar Yatra pilgrims on the Delhi-Dehradun national highway and other places in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur and Baghpat districts.
The district magistrates and senior superintendents of police (SSPs) of the four districts showered petals on the pilgrims from helicopters, said DK Thakur, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Meerut zone.
In Meerut, DM Deepak Meena and SSP Vipin Tada showered petals from a chopper at the Augarnath temple, Delhi-Dehradun National Highway, Pallavpuram and the Shivaya toll plaza.
SSP Tada said, “One unit of the Anti-Terrorist Squad commandos, three battalions of the Provincial Armed Constabulary, and two companies of the Rapid Action Force have been deployed for security in and around the temple for Thursday and Friday. Also, two assistant superintendents of police (ASPs), eight DSPs, 15 inspectors, 112 sub-inspectors and 550 constables have been assigned duties there”.
