Over two weeks after the Haryana Special Task Force (STF) arrested wanted gangster Rakesh alias Kala Khairampuriya after deportation from Thailand, his aide — wanted in a shooting incident in Hisar — who stayed with Khairampuriya abroad was arrested on Saturday, said police.
Rohit, the main accused in the shootout at a Mahindra showroom in Hisar last month, allegedly supplied weapons and conducted a recce at the showroom, according to officials. Officials said he landed at Bangalore airport from Thailand and was later arrested after he was brought to Delhi.
On June 24, three bike-borne accused — who were members of the Kala Khairampuriya gang — fired indiscriminately and demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore in the name of Khairampuriya and another gangster Himanshu Bhau, who is also based abroad, police said. They also threatened to kill people if the ransom was not paid. An FIR was registered under IPC sections 307, 387, 506, and sections of the Arms Act at Hisar City police station.
“Given the seriousness of the matter, the ongoing investigation of the case was handed over to the Haryana Special Task Force. The STF promptly worked and brought the main gang leader, Rakesh alias Kala Khairampuriya, to India from abroad through legal procedures and arrested him. He is currently on police remand,” said a police spokesperson.
Rohit fled to Thailand immediately after the incident and allegedly stayed with Kala Khairampuriya. The Haryana STF initiated appropriate legal procedures to bring him to India by issuing an LOC (look out circular), the spokesperson added.
“After completing the legal process at Bangalore airport, the accused Rohit was brought to Delhi airport Saturday morning. He will be presented before the court to obtain police remand, during which a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine Rohit’s involvement in various incidents and the connections of this gang with other gangs,” the STF said. This is the second action taken by the Haryana STF against gangsters based abroad within 15 days.
