25-yr-old man ‘stabbed to death’ in front of cops in Dharavi, 2 held | Mumbai News

A 26-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death in front of police personnel in Dharavi Sunday following which two persons were arrested.

According to police, the deceased, Arvind Vaishya, was murdered by two people when he intervened in a dispute involving the father of one of the accused.

The two arrested persons were identified as Niyaz Aslam Sheikh (24) and Arif Mohammad Asif Sheikh (23), residents of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Dharavi.

An officer said, “Arvind Vaishya and his friend Siddhesh Gore were walking in Dharavi Sunday night when they saw that Niyaz’s father Aslam arguing with another person over crossing the road.”

When Vaishya intervened in the matter Aslam got angry at him, and there was a spat between them.

Police said that, subsequently, Niyaz, Arif and two others allegedly assaulting him.

After Vaishya informed the police, the 25-year-old man and his relatives along with the police officials went to Rajiv Gandhi Nagar looking for the accused.

“Vaishya was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by his relative and others were in a van following them. As soon as they parked their motorcycle after reaching the spot, Niyaz and Arif stabbed Vaishya to death,” said an officer.

The police, who also reached the spot, apprehended the two while they were trying to escape.

An officer said, “We have registered a case and arrested the two accused under relevant sections of murder and conspiracy.”

The police said that they are trying to ascertain whether other people are also involved in the murder.
