2 arrested, juvenile held for trying to extort Rs 50 Lakh from gym owner: Police | Delhi News

Two men were arrested and a juvenile apprehended after they allegedly attempted to intimidate a gym owner in Burari to extort Rs 50 lakh from him.

Police said during questioning, one of them allegedly confessed they were acting on instructions from a gangster who’s jailed in Tihar.

On July 5, Rohit (who goes by one name), was sitting in his friend’s car when he noticed two young men, with their faces covered, approaching him on a bike. One of them was carrying a pistol, he told police.

The men allegedly brandished the weapon and threatened Rohit with “dire consequences”. Rohit raised an alarm, catching the attention of passersby who chased the bike. The men fired in the air and fled, said police.

On July 9, Rohit filed a complaint and police registered a case. Two teams were formed which scanned almost 500 CCTVs before narrowing down the hiding spot of the shooters to Narela.

Police identified one of them as Nikhil (alias Nikki) (27), who had been involved in a murder case in Hiranki Village where he had killed a rival gang member in 2022, and arrested him. During questioning, police said he claimed he received instructions to carry out the extortion from a gangster, Sunny Kakran. Nikhil’s associate Mohit (25) was also nabbed.

The trio allegedly revealed that the man who’d sent them instructions from jail had arranged for a hideaway for them in Meerut and Prayagraj. “Nikhil went to Delhi after staying in Meerut for 4 days and the other two shooters went to Prayagraj,” said DCP (North), Manoj Kumar Meena.
