14 students return safely from Bangladesh: Govt | Ahmedabad News

Fourteen of the 25 students from Gujarat who were stranded in violence-torn Bangladesh have been safely brought back, while arrangements are on to bring back the remaining, the state government said Monday.

A number of Indians have been stranded as Bangladesh is witnessing clashes between police and protesters, mainly students, demanding an end to a quota that reserved 30 per cent of government jobs for relatives of veterans who fought in the country’s war of independence in 1971.

The 14 medical students who returned hail from Bharuch (7), Ahmedabad (2), Bhavnagar (2), Amreli (1), Mehsana (1) and Patan (1). An official release from the Gujarat government Monday stated that Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had given instructions to Non-Resident Gujarati (NRG) Foundation to coordinate efforts to bring back the students.

The NRG Foundation announced a helpline number and an email id to receive details about Gujarati students stranded in Bangladesh.

In response, the state government got details of about 25 students. Subsequently, the NRG Foundation, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, established contact with those students.
