The first suspected case of monkeypox was reported in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. According to media reports, government sources have said that the sample has been sent for examination, but it is unnecessary to spread panic. So far, no case of monkeypox has been reported in India.

According to officials of the Health Department Ghaziabad, a clinic informed them about a young child with typical symptoms related to the disease and samples were taken as a precautionary measure, reported IE. The child, who is reportedly 5 years old, was taken to an ENT clinic on May 23 for a hearing related test. The doctor noticed that the minor had severe skin rashes and itching. The monitoring officer took cognizance of the information and a response team was deployed.

Officials have said that the child has no history of foreign travel, and has not come in contact with anyone who has traveled abroad in the past one month. He didn’t even have a fever or a headache. According to the IE report, the family has been asked to isolate the child till the sample results are out. Health officials are monitoring symptoms to suggest further course of action.
