Two Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials, who were part of the team investigating the Cordelia drugs seizure case in which actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was arrested, have been suspended for “willful negligence in duty”. who had helped one of the accused. An unrelated drugs case secured bail.
Superintendent Vishwa Vijay Singh and intelligence officer Ashish Ranjan Prasad were suspended on Tuesday, a senior NCB official said.
Incidentally, the investigation into the Cordelia case was ordered after allegations, including demanding bribes, against the then NCB superintendent. Sameer Wankhede and his team including Singh and Prasad. So far, the findings of the investigation conducted by Deputy Director Dnyaneshwar Singh have not been made public.
According to sources, both the officials were suspended in connection with a case involving the seizure of 310 grams of banned substance, in which one Sahil Shah alias Flacco was dubbed a “mastermind” by the NCB. While two accused, Ganesh Shere and Siddhant Amin, were arrested, the NCB team was on the lookout for Shah.
Shah finally surrendered on 28 January. However, he was later granted bail.
It was suspected that it was mainly due to lack of efforts on the part of Singh and Prasad that the accused managed to secure bail and hence an inquiry was ordered. “It was on the basis of the inquiry report that he was suspended by the DG NCB,” an official said.
Earlier, allegations were leveled against Wankhede’s team – including Singh and Prasad – in connection with the investigation into the Cordelia case.
NCP leader Nawab Malik had alleged how the NCB had used the same panch – or witnesses – in several cases. He had alleged that witnesses in some cases had criminal records of their own. Sources said Prasad was involved in making panchnama in several cases.
Malik had earlier alleged that Singh had demanded a Land Cruiser from him when his son-in-law Sameer Khan was arrested in a drugs case in January this year.
The investigation in the Cordelia case had come under scrutiny following allegations by one of the five witnesses, Prabhakar Cell.
SAIL, who died earlier this month, had said that he and KP Gosavi, another panch witness in the Cordelia case, were in the car later on the night Aryan was arrested. He had alleged that he had heard Gosavi talking to Sam D’Souza over phone that Rs 25 crore was demanded to settle the matter.
In its affidavit, SAIL claimed that it heard Gosavi saying, “You planted a bomb of 25 crores and settled in 18 finals, because we have to give 8 crores to Sameer Wankhede.”
Wankhede had denied the allegations of extortion.
