17 hospitalised after ammonia gas leak at food processing company in Pune district | Pune News

Seventeen people, including 15 women, were hospitalised after ammonia gas leaked from the cooling unit of a food processing company at Bhandgaon in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Wednesday. One person is in the ICU and 16 others are out of danger, officials said on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred in a ready-to-eat food preparation unit at Bhandgaon, located around 60 km from Pune, an officer from Yavat police station under the Pune rural jurisdiction said.

“On Wednesday morning, after an incident of ammonia leak from the cooling unit in the food processing unit, 17 staffers showed signs of ammonia poisoning and were hospitalised. As of Thursday morning, one is in ICU but is said to be stable. Sixteen others are out of danger. A probe is being conducted into the leak,” Narayan Deshmukh, Police Inspector, Yavat police station, said.
