Police had said that on Friday afternoon, A Subair (44), the head of the Popular Front of India (PFI) Ellapulli area, was murdered near the local mosque where he and his father Abubakar had gone to offer Friday prayers.
Police had found that a car used by the attackers – who are yet to be identified – was registered in the name of RSS leader S Sanjeet, who was killed by PFI-SDPI men in November last year. Police said Sanjeet’s family confirmed that the car belonged to him, but it was abandoned in a workshop months before his death. They could not confirm who had taken the car from the workshop.
Police also found that another car allegedly left behind by Subair’s killers was hired on Friday morning by local BJP worker Ramesan, who is now absconding.
BJP state general secretary C Krishnakumar claimed that SDPI and PFI were behind Saturday’s attack. “The police could not stop the killing of the RSS worker. Yesterday, we had denied the role of our workers or any person from the Sangh Parivar behind the killing of a PFI worker,” he said.
Saturday’s murder is the third political murder in Palakkad district in the last five months.
