However, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar has taken on record the letter sent by Bharat Gogawale, who is the chief whip of the Eknath Shinde-led faction. Gogavale said that 16 Shiv Sena MLAs have violated the whip.

Narvekar got a total of 164 votes in support and 107 went to the Shiv Sena candidate’s account. During the election of the Speaker, 12 members remained absent and 3 MLAs stayed away from voting.

In the latest development, Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction has also started the legal process to disqualify 16 MLAs, including Shinde.
